Editorial Standards

This page describes how HotColdRecovery selects, evaluates, and ranks products, and the standards our content is expected to meet.

How we choose what to cover

We prioritize categories where readers face a real buying decision with more than one credible option. Every buyer’s guide starts from a landscape scan: what brands actually compete in the category, at what price points, and what independent data exists to differentiate them.

We do not cover products that:

  • Lack third-party verification of core performance claims (e.g., irradiance for red light devices, thermal output for saunas, pressure gradient for compression boots)
  • Are made by brands with a documented pattern of misleading marketing
  • Have a safety recall we cannot confirm has been fully remediated

How we rank

Rankings are built from these signals, weighted for the category:

  1. Independent performance data – published lab measurements where they exist
  2. Manufacturer specifications cross-checked against verified customer reports
  3. Warranty and support quality – length of coverage, responsiveness of service
  4. Long-term reliability – failure modes we have seen documented across multiple owners
  5. Price-to-value at multiple budget points – we do not just recommend the most expensive option
  6. Total cost of ownership – electrical work, water treatment, replacement parts, chiller service

What “Best” means on this site

We use “Best” to mean “best fit for a defined buyer profile at a defined price point,” not “the single best product in the world.” Every guide explicitly names the buyer profile at the top – for example, “the best cold plunge tub for a first-time buyer with $2,000 to spend and no permanent installation plans” is a different answer than “the best cold plunge tub for a serious daily user with $6,000 to spend and a garage circuit already in place.”

Affiliate relationships

HotColdRecovery is an Amazon Associate. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This is our primary source of funding. It has no effect on which products we recommend or how we rank them – our credibility depends on getting this right.

We may in the future add affiliate relationships with individual manufacturers where they represent a legitimate value-add for readers (e.g., financing options, warranty extensions not available on Amazon). Any such addition will be publicly disclosed on this page.

Corrections policy

If we get something wrong – a spec is out of date, a product has been discontinued, a claim is misleading – we correct it. Corrections are made in the affected article and, when material, noted at the top of the piece with a dated update line. Contact info@hotcoldrecovery.com with corrections.

Sponsored content policy

We do not accept sponsored posts, paid placements, or free products in exchange for coverage. We do not have a “pay to play” tier. If you represent a brand and you would like us to consider your product for a category we cover, please email us with technical documentation and a review sample availability – we will decide based on category fit.

AI-assisted writing

Some of our content is drafted with AI assistance and then reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by a human before publication. We are transparent about this because it is standard practice for many independent publishers in 2026. AI never has final say on a recommendation – that always sits with the editor. We do not publish AI-generated product images, AI-generated product reviews, or AI-fabricated benchmark data.

Medical claims

Where a health claim appears on this site, it is either a description of the physiological mechanism (well-established) or a summary of published clinical research (with sources indicated where possible). We do not claim any product will diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Recovery equipment is not medicine. When we describe use protocols, they are consistent with mainstream sports medicine guidance, not novel or contrarian recommendations.
